Uber drivers are, indeed, independent contractors, according to a settlement reached in California and Massachusetts. That means The settlement provides fairer treatment for drivers–the company can’t arbitrarily “fire” or de-list them. Most important, it preserves the Uber business model. But, says the LA Times article, “a settlement isn’t a decision,” so this may not be the end of the matter.
