In a survey of 13,000 high-performing high-school students, 3M ranked first as the company they want to work for. Surprisingly, the venerable Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing company beat out Google, which came in second.
According to Forbes Magazine, the ranking is a result of a concerted effort by 3M to position itself as a cutting-edge science and technology company, using a “Science Applied to Life” tagline. “3M has made a point of attending tech conferences like SXSW to expand its brands and show its face to consumers and the general public,” the article said.
